As always, a great day of riding.... And eating. Seems like the two are somehow tied together on every ride we do...

OUR FIRST STOP - CONEY ISLAND AND THE CYCLONE!

ANOTHER SHOT

AND YET ANOTHER... THIS ONE SHOWS OUR PHOTOGRAPHER (GILBEY) NEXT TO HIS KLR 650
\

FROM ACROSS THE STREET. GILBEY AND I ARE ON A MISSION TO FIND SOMETHING TO PROTECT THOSE FRONT TIRES WHICH STICK OUT INTO TRAFFIC A BIT... YOU CAN SEE 1/2 OF DOEBELMAN'S FACE AND MOST OF GC IN THIS PHOTO.

AH HA! FOUND SOME CONES AND CAUTION TAPE UP ON THE CORNER NEXT TO THE "PARK" GC IS ADMIRING THE 2004 HARLEY. WE THINK HE MAY SELL HIS V-STROM AND PICK ONE OF THESE UP.

DOEBELMAN AND GC STILL CHATTING. FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: 2004 HARLEY ULTRA CLASSIC, 2004 V-STROM 650, 2003 VALKYRIE, 2003 KLR 650

DOEBELMAN, GC AND ME (VIAGRO / DUFU) STILL HANGING OUT. WE GOT THERE ABOUT 1/2 HOUR EARLY AS WE HAD ONE OTHER GUY WHO HAD CONFIRMED HIS PLANS TO COME VIA CAR FROM NJ. HE NEVER SHOWED UP AND WE ARE STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF HE IS OKAY, STILL LOST, ETC. AS YOU CAN SEE, GILBEY WAS THE ONLY PERSON WITH A CAMERA SO ALL THE SHOTS DON'T INCLUDE HIM EXCEPT FOR THE CONEY ISLAND SHOTS... EVEN HIS BIKE IS HIDDEN!

A BETTER (OR WORSE I SUPPOSE) SHOT OD DOEBELMAN, GC AND VIAGRO

WHEN WE SHOWED UP, TRAFFIC WAS ABOUT THIS BAD... WE FOUND A PARKING SPOT IMMEDIATELY AS SOMEONE SAID THEY WERE LEAVING. AS THE CAR PULLED OUT, ALL FOUR BIKES WERE LINED UP WAITING FOR IT. A SMALL WHITE CAR SNEAKS ABOUT 1/2 WAY INTO THE SPOT (GC ALREADY HAD HIS BIKE THERE!) AND WAS TRYING TO MUSCLE US OUT OF THE SPOT. IT WAS A TENSE 30 SECONDS AS GC AND THE DRIVER EXCHANGED HEATED GLANCES AND MOUTHED WORDS (NOT ACTUALLY SPOKEN) UNTIL THE DRIVER DECIDED TO GO ELSEWHERE.

THIS IS ABOUT 20% OF THE FOOD WE ATE. SHRIMP IN PEPPER SAUCE, CRISPY FRIED DUCK AND LEMON CHICKEN ARE SHOWN.

A CLOSE-UP SHOT OF GILBEY - OUR PHOTOGRAPHER.

Yesterday's Ride Report:
We had a very good ride yesterday. As the season dictates,
a smaller than
normal crowd, but lots of fun!
Started off in Summit, NJ with six bikes there. Two guys
just happened to
be there at the same time with their bikes but didn't know about our group
or ride. One was off to the airport a few hours later for a flight to
Europe and the other had other plans for the day.
We left Summit and decided to take the fast route out
of NJ. Over to 78
East to the Turnpike to the Goethals and Staten Island. Then over the
Verrezano (great view - very clear) and onto the Belt Parkway. From there,
we detoured into Coney Island and then meandered through the Rockaways and
far Rockaways for a bit before heading straight over to Flushing. The
grated deck bridge that led us to the Rockaways was a nightmare for those
who hate them. 1/2 mile (it seemed) of steel cheese grater surface below
you at speed. Boo!
Made it to New Lok Kee and immediately secured a parking
spot - even though
we had to argue it out with a car who thought they could sneak into the spot
after we waited specifically for the spot... For 20 minutes.
Parked the bikes, found some unique protective devices
(see the web page for
photos) and headed in for food.
Ate...
Ate some more...
Had a bit more...
Departed. Went back through the city and over the Lincoln
Tunnel (under I
suppose) into NJ.
Got home... Wife says, "Want to go out for dinner?"
I tell her "Sure."
She says, "Thai food?"
The rest is history... I'm still full, won't eat today,
and had one of the
best food days of my life... Along with a nice ride with friends.
Next ride is planned for December 16th. We are going
to make our
destination lunch in Caldwell, NJ at Bangkok Kitchen, one of the best Thai
places I've ever gone to. (GC - we'll order something a bit less bland for
you this time!) Plans on departure time and location TBA in the next few
weeks and possibly dictated by weather conditions for the day...
